Virginia Deckard

Virginia M. Deckard, 91, of Vincennes, passed away at 6:21 pm, Thursday April 2, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born March 29, 1924 in Vincennes, to Lee "Bud" & Mabel (Rowe) LaBontieVirginia was a charter member of the of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She also belonged to the Xi Delta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and the Telephone Pioneers. Virginia retired from Indiana Bell, where during the war years she was transferred to Fort Wayne and Camp Atterbury for the telephone company.She married her husband, Gene Deckard, on February 3, 1946 as soon as he returned from overseas duty. He was the love of her life and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2009 as they had 63 years together. She was also preceded by a sister Mary Lee LaBontie.Surviving are her three sons, David (Janet) Deckard of Barlett, TN, Ron (Vickie) Deckard of Vincennes, and Bruce (Cindy) Deckard of Vincennes; her grandchildren, Tad (Kim) Deckard of Murells Inlet, SC, Lee (Jaime) Douglass of Kingsport, TN, Shelley Brewer of Bartlett, TN, Gail (Jonathan) Hines of Memphis, TN, Chad (Gina) Deckard of Vincennes, Krisi (Jeffrey) Mattingly of Vincennes, and Jessica Deckard of Owensboro. Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Gabrielle Deckard, Hope Deckard, Alivia Deckard, Vera Mattingly, Brooklynn Brewer, Marlee Brewer, Darbye Brewer, Alayna Douglass, Trey Douglass, Sierra Deckard, Grant Deckard, Cameron Mattingly; and a sister in law, Helen Crowley.She loved the Lord, her family, and many friends.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday April 6, 2015 at Gardner Brockman funeral home with Rev. Dawson Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the service. Memorial contributions may be made to heart to heart.
