Virginia Helen Flory was born on February 10, 1936 to Helen Blanche (Willis) and Isaac Redman Stewart. Virginia grew up in Knox County with her parents and four siblings. After graduating from Monroe City High School, Virginia accepted a job in the bookkeeping department of the Brown Shoe Company in Vincennes, Indiana. She married Billy Gene Flory on August 8, 1956 at the Hamline Chapel United Methodist Church where she remained a member throughout her life. In 1959, Virginia left the Brown Shoe Co. to become a full-time homemaker. She and Billy raised their six children in a country home near Monroe City.
Virginia enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time in her gardens and feeding the birds. Poking around junk shops and flea markets for another piece of the vintage dishes she collected or a prized antique item to display was an activity she rarely passed up. Virginia looked for opportunities to exercise her creative spirit and loved decorating for family gatherings and holidays - especially Christmas when she could arrange her huge collection of teddy bears.
In the early 2000's, Virginia took a job at Vincennes University as a Resident Hall Desk Clerk and became involved with the newly founded Blue Jeans Community Center in the old Monroe City school building. There she volunteered as the Curator of the Monroe City History Museum, the Organizer of the annual community flea market, drama group Director and Head Clown of the Flory Family Clowns for the annual Monroe City Fall Festival parade.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Billy, her parents, Isaac and Blanche Stewart, her siblings, Catherine (Nelson), Imogene (Adams), Edman Stewart, and Nancy (Cox), grandchildren Bethany Litherland and JD Litherland and son-in-law, Steve Litherland, Sr. She is survived by her children, Becky Flory (Betty Lark Ross), Cheryl Litherland, Jan Stangle (Scott) , Jeff Flory (Teresa), Kathy Litherland and Kris Perry (Wayne), 13 Grandchildren and 26 Great-Grandchildren.
