Virginia Lee Abrams, 89, went the be with the Lord on May 17, 2024 at 5:00am Gentlecare Nursing & Rehabilitation in Vincennes.
She was born on April 9, 1935, to the late Lewis and Gertrude (Johnson) Bateman in Vincennes, IN.
Virginia married the love of her life, Thomas Eugene Abrams Sr., on October 18, 1952, and they spent 70 years together happily married before his passing. Together, they had three children, Tommy, Terri, and Tammie.
Throughout her life, Virginia found joy and purpose in homemaking. She dedicated her days to baking, filling her home with the delightful aroma of freshly baked goods that brought warmth and comfort to those around her. Family was at the center of her world. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In her leisure time, Virginia derived simple pleasures from watching game shows, finding entertainment and relaxation in those moments. Her kind and compassionate nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
Viriginia is survived by her children, Tammie (Cary) Twitty of Vincennes, IN, and Terri (Mike) Bushta of Florida; her grandchildren, Lee VanSweringen, Heather (Joel) Machemer, Gabbie (Shane) Clack, Craig (Canda) Twitty, Sarah (Josh) Donnoe, and Ashley (Kristi) Abrams; her step-grandchildren, Jason (Susan) Petelle and family, and Brandy Petelle; her great-grandchildren, Morgan VanSweringen, Keona Donnoe, Palmer Twitty, and Wade Abrams; her special niece, Carol McRoberts; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas E. Abrams Sr.; her son, Tommy Abrams Jr.; and her siblings, Hubert Bateman, Bertha Bateman, and Ralph Bateman.
Visitation for Virginia will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 10:00am-12:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St., Vincennes, IN 47591. A funeral service will follow immediately following visitation at 12:00 with Pastor John Trotter officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Vincennes Pet Port 1128 River Rd., Vincennes, IN, or Helping His Hands, 2011 Willow St suite b, Vincennes, IN 47591. Donation envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to Turnia Castle, who did such a great job giving compassionate care to Virginia over the last two years as her caretaker.
