Walter "Windy" Lane, 89, of Vincennes, passed away at his home. He was a 64 year member of the International Operating Engineers, and had worked for Ralph Green Construction for 43 years. During WWII, Walter served in the 253rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion throughout Europe. He was a part of the liberation of Paris, and the Battle of the Bulge. A 55 year member of the American Legion, he also belonged to the VFW and 40 et 8. Born February 10, 1923 in Decker, IN, Walter was the son of Denver and Athel (Sullivan) Lane. On December 28, 1949, he married Donna McCord, and she passed away in 1997. Also preceding him were two brothers, Arthur and Bernard Lane. Surviving Walter are his children, Deborah (Robert) Grubb of Vincennes, Stephen (Paula) Lane of Vincennes, and Beverly (Charles) Lloyd of Florida; grandchildren, Dale Cardinal, Robin Cardinal Vieke, Christina Grubb Burns, Matthew Lane, Ethan Lane, Gregory Lloyd, and Stephanie Lloyd McClain; a sister, Dessie Sherman of Princeton, IN; brothers Wesley Lane of Vincennes, and Baxter Lane of Florida; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
