Wanda Mae Applegate, 88, passed away at 5:30 am on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at The New Willow Manor Nursing Home. Wanda was born on January 20, 1927 in Emison the daughter of Craven and Pearl Maude (VanMeter) Byrd. Wanda attended the Bicknell Nazarene Church and was a Factory worker for Reynolds Spring. She also owned and operated a liquor store in Sullivan. Wanda loved to play cards, plant flowers and enjoyed working in her yard. She looked forward each year for spring to come. Survivors include her former husband and caregiver, Tommy Lee Barnes of Bicknell; daughter, Carol Ann Moore and her husband, Rusty of Vincennes; sisters, Berneice Jones of Ottawa, IL, Shirley Anderson of Merritt Island, FL; Betty McCullough and her husband Bob of Vincennes; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Wayne Byrd and two sisters, Mary Jane Palmer and Marjorie Huffman. Funeral services for Wanda will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main Street, Vincennes. Burial will follow in Oaktown Cemetery.
