Wayne Thacker

Wayne C. Thacker, 86, passed away at 1:25 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Wayne was born in Vincennes on April 2, 1928. He married Viola Fern Davis on January 24, 1949 and she preceded him in death on February 12, 1998.Wayne served his country in the United States Army for three years; he then was the manager of A & P Grocery Store for nineteen years before owning and operating Thacker's Red & White grocery in Carlisle, IN for twenty eight years before retiring in 1993. Wayne resided in Carlisle, IN for forty seven years and was a member of the First Christian Church in Sullivan, IN. He was also a member of the IOOF #50 Lodge in Carlisle.Survivors include his daughter, Susan Brown and her husband Deece of Carlisle, two sons, Randy Thacker of Carlisle, IN and James Thacker of Jackson, TN; brother, Ron Bentle of Chicago, IL; and a sister, Carolyn Matteson of Washington, IN. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Fern Thacker, four brothers and two sisters.Funeral services for Wayne will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway with Rev. Dale Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with Wayne's family from 4-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
