Wilbur Stewart

Wilbur Stewart, 84, passed away at 6:28 am on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at his residence. Wilbur was born on October 12, 1936 in Knox County the son of Roy and Ruby (Gilbert) Stewart.Wilbur was a graduate of Monroe City High school and attended Hamline Chapel United Methodist and Community United Methodist Churches. He also took pride in the fact he served on the boards of Monroe City United Methodist Church as well as Christ United Methodist Church in Washington in various capacities. Wilbur was self-employed in the logging, construction and scrap industry. He was proud of the fact he built a car crusher and enjoyed working with bulldozers. Another proud moment for Wilbur was when he was in the Kennedy procession when Robert Kennedy made his way thorough Southwest Indiana in 1968.Survivors include his daughter, Sandra "Sandi" Stewart of Monroe City; son, Eric Stewart of Monroe City; the mother of his children who was a great caregiver, Faye Bilskie of Vincennes; sister, Esther Hicks of Rockport, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Idalea Linn; brothers, Paul and Nathan Stewart, and several nieces and nephews.Friends may visit with Wilbur's family from 10:00 am until noon on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday at Hamline Chapel Cemetery in Monroe City with Rev. Brenda Wick officiating.
