William Halter

January 30, 1926 — December 14, 2021

William A. Halter, 95, passed away on December 14, 2021 at his daughter residence in Greenwood, IN. Bill was born on January 30, 1926 in Vincennes and he was the son of Lawrence and Emma (Hess) Halter. He married Geneva Hall and she preceded him in death. He then married JoAnn Leonard and she survives. Bill was a member of Old Cathedral Catholic Church and served his country in the US Air Force during WW II. He was a truck driver for Robinson Grain, and drove a school bus for several years for South Knox School Corporation as well as Vincennes School Corporation. Bill also enjoyed farming, tinkering, and old trucks. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Leonard, daughter, Lori Summitt and her husband David of Greenwood, IN; son, Tim Halter of Vincennes; grandchildren, Jessica Deann Temple, Danielle Boren, Brittany Bowers, Cody Edgin, Cierra Halter; six great grandchildren, and his sister-in-law, Shyla Halter of Vincennes. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Geneva Halter, his siblings, Eugene Halter, Laura Halter, Emma Thomas, Clara Lane, Paul Halter, Irene Frey, Lawrence Halter, John Halter, and Maurice Halter. Friends may visit with Bill's family from 4-7 pm on Monday, December 20, 2021 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Old Cathedral Catholic Church, 205 Church St., Vincennes, IN with Rev. Tony Ernst celebrating. Bill will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. On line memories can be shared with Bill's family and friends at www.goodwin-sievers.com.
