William "Bill" F. Vachet, 92, passed away in Washington on Saturday October 19, 2013. Bill was born on December 27, 1921 in Vincennes the son of Thomas and Elva (Skillman) Vachet.Bill was a member of Old Cathedral Catholic Church. He served his country during WW II in the United States Army receiving numerous awards for his service to his country. Bill was a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Vincennes for thirty seven years. He was a Red Cross volunteer; past 7th District Commander of the American Legion; past President of the Harmony Society and was very active in organizing and participating with the All Weather Firing Squad.Survivors include his sons, Michael Vachet of Washington, IN; Thomas Vachet of Manhattan Beach, CA and several grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Maurice and John Vachet.Funeral services for Bill will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery where the All Weather Firing Squad will conduct military rites at the gravesite.
